The apparatus [smartComposter ADV DUO 250W] to be shown is one that allows the controlled execution of a quantitatively oriented technologized approach to composting, in which the multidimensional phenomenon of decay can be managed in a fundamental way and qualitatively evaluated and numerically displayed to the reductionist capture of the living by sensor technology in real time. Thus, this intrusion of the artificial is a fusion of the ontological and technical order with the born and the realm of the made, a salvation from the context of nature, connected with the promise and the goal of guiding things into the right balance.
The development of the sculpture leads along a performance-focused engineering path. For example, the two monitored composting chambers equipped with sensors, also called tumblers, are made of 3D printed carbon fiber filament. The creation of lightness and strength through carbon fiber not only has a powerful external presence but is also synonymous with high-performance on a social level. In addition to these aspects, the lightweight construction is also functional, as the compostable content quickly reaches a high weight and thus the rotation of the tumblers is not additionally burdened by heavy construction. By means of an e-bike hub motor, which connects the two tumblers with each other, the aggravated rotating is additionally counteracted – the motor as well as the carbon fiber drums are equipped with ball bearings and can rotate smoothly around two axes. These are an integral part of the 360 ° movable structure and connect the composter part to a sun tracking system which orientates itself towards the position of the sun in a reverent and ceremonial way, maximizing the harvesting of electromagnetic radiation.

The work visualizes a historical artifact unearthed after a long search in the unordered depths of the dark naturalistic worlds of former Gen2 Metaverse battlefields. The find includes the discovery of the Genesis Stone*, which was reinterpreted and created based on the narrative of the six Infinity Stones from the Battlerealm in the form of two interlocking inside a block. With re-creation of the stone and its powers, according to the story, should initiate the first redistribution after the introduction of the contiguous metaverses.
*The Genesis Stone is one of the six Infinity Stones native to the Battlerealm. It was created by channeling the energies released by the great battles of the Contest of Champions. Its properties include Creator Deity, Mental Projection/Animation, Trust Embodiment, Perfection Embodiment, and Genesis Aspect Manifestation, as well as the Primordial Force Physiology.

kunstverein.digital | The work > FREE! 41+ eGift Cards by the artist Leon Roth deals with the implementation of game design mechanisms in a decidedly non-game context, with the abstraction of money and the way gift cards form and transport values.
The first level of the work deals with the motivator reward system. Especially in games, crowdsourcing platforms and companies, the use of reward systems is one of the most effective motivators. They create a sense of competence, participation and autonomy. This method of game design in a non-game context is called gamification. This is an approach to designing platforms to motivate and subsequently reward desired behaviors of users in a game-like system. Paid crowdsourcing platforms, such as Amazon Mechanical Turk, employ this type of strategy for their monotonous microtasks, where humans train an AI for minimum wage. Many tasks involve labeling data as quickly as possible, especially image data that is fed into supervised machine learning models to help them better understand the world, such as transcribing audio files for Amazon Alexa.
The second level of > FREE! 41+ eGift Cards is dedicated to abstracting money. In the case of paper money or a gift card, where money exists in code form, it is a record that is transferred into which a value is transferred. There is always the question of how many tangibles can be exchanged for a certain amount. The phenomenon of financial abstraction here is that currencies and payment instruments are becoming less and less concrete and more and more abstract. Exemplary of this is the transition from cash to debit, credit, electronic transfers [such as PayPal], to cryptocurrencies, which further abstract and change the notion of money and currency. These factors are leading to an increase in consumerism.

For the Summer Semester of 2021 (April - July) a group of students at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK Hamburg) met weekly for an hour and a half to work through the phenomenon of NFTs – Non-Fungible-Tokens – and their sudden visibility in the art context. Local blockchain enthusiasts were enlisted to walk the group through the basics of blockchain, and the recent rise of NFTs as art. Topical issues related to this phenomenon were explored and discussed – from the basics of private currencies, digital money, claims to “decentralization”, the political affiliations and ideologies commonly associated with cryptocurrencies, the electricity usage of ‘Proof of Work’ consensys mechanisms and emergent alternatives like ‘Proof of Stake’ and ‘Proof of Spacetime’.
The session was concluded by a group exercise: minting a collective NFT on a ‘Proof of Stake’ blockchain. It was decided that a ‘time capsule’ format would be used, where all artists in the group submitted a file. These would be collectively compressed into a password-protected ZIP file, which would then be stored on a decentralized storage service. An HTML file was minted as an NFT, containing the links to this wordpress webpage. And in order to access the time capsule, a second page is timed to go live in 10 years – providing the key to unlock the ZIP, and reveal the aged files in 2031.
For the NFT, a fixed price was set for sale (1 Tezos for every participating artist), and a german GbR was set up to split proceeds in the future equally among the participants. Further, a 25% resale rate was saved into the Tezos smart contract, so that the minting wallet would receive this percentage whenever sold.

*Denny class at HFBK has worked on a digital platform that distils this dynamic into a platform for artistic communication. We combine a copy of the popular social chat network Discord with a virtual copy of a Mercedes-Benz OM502LA truck engine – providing a flexible space where we can install digital artworks. The exhibition is structured through the thematic chat channels of the Discord user interface, and represent interrelated topics that the artists address in their work. The Discord chat structure allows visitors to interact with the works e.g. via emoji reactions or direct responses.
The exhibition space is both the digital presentation of the Denny class for 2021’s HFBK Annual exhibition, and commissioned as a part of the project »Conditions of a Necessity« initiated by Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
